"Why would you want high karma ?" because I don't have one. Hit me

That deserves karma!

+1 Truecrypt. However my fingers get the password wrong regularly, today for instance! The reassurance it provides is very valuable, I have PCs laptop, netbook, ext HDD, and memory sticks all encrypted as confidential client data could be on any of them. Prior to this I used regularly get in a funk whenever I couldn't locate a memory stick

If wikileaks should be allowed to leak state secrets then why should some jokes be taboo?

No one said they weren't allowed to make the jokes.

It might just be my reading of it but Yes, nothing like rape for a good chuckle. conveys disapproval to me.

There's a tremendous difference between expressing disapproval for what someone says and believing that they shouldn't be allowed to say it (insert not-actually-Voltaire quote here).

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Done.

Extending the premise to the ultimate, if you have time to study just one book and one in which not a single word is wasted it's got to be :

The Elements of Computing Systems: Building a Modern Computer from First Principles by Nisan and Schocken

I think there's a lot in what you say. It's more like the approach kids have to learning stuff when left to their own devices

Not exactly the same thing.

At the end you tend to re-invent the wheel if you learn that way. Learning about the existing wheels will save much time and correct a lot of errors that you might never even see when working that way.

And kids knowledge is generally supplemented by adults to complete the picture and sometimes we have to lie to introduce them to some concepts.

There's a scavenging pack of higher rep OCD types on SO who immediately kill any question they perceive to be weak

StackOverflow has its own deletionists now? Is there any other site that does?

I think now that it's happened to more than one online community, it's worth a lot of careful thinking to figure out why and how these communities develop deletionist subcultures.

If your "pack" exists, they are hard to come across by accident.

Where I live I can see a house where the delivery cost is $8 per issue less than mine

Have it delivered there! Then go pick it up.

The border between Ireland and Nothern Ireland?

That's one name for it! ;)

I fly a paraglider which is essentially the same thing only unpowered. At around $10/hour it's within reach of most people. Takes around 7-9 days to get a restricted license in most countries. Then you just grab a friend, walk your back pack up the hill and, if the weather gods are agreeable, launch.

I upvoted you because i thought people were in these things a belief sadly shown to be false by http://www.shallowsky.com/planes/weasel/slopetips.html Aerial combat should have alerted me!
