Thanks for sharing! Very interesting to see the development in the timelapse. Going to do this for my next Unity project.

Not only the NYPost, I have an old gen1 or gen2 iPad and it can't render many modern pages. The browser crashes when it tries to load the ads on many pages. Still perfect for reading HN though.

Yes, definetly. There are a few guys at my local climbing gyms that are in their 70s. I am 40, and these guys are more fit than I am, even though I have climbed for a few years. I asked one of them how long he had been climbing and how he got so good - he told me that he started when he was 50 and that you can achieve a lot in 20 years. It gave me hope for the future.

Thanks!!

Not OP, but I got my whole genome sequenced from sequencing.com. It is currently around 399 USD. The sequencing is done by Nebula Genomics, nebula.org, where it is currently 299 USD.

You get to keep all the raw data from the sequencing and you will get some reports included. I did it in order to do a genetic disease screening as I was very sick with strange symptoms for a long time.

Thanks to you, and others, for sharing. I hadn't yet resorted to looking in the consumer space. In research (and presumably clinical)-land, the costs are substantially higher.

I'll be looking into it further to figure out whether there is some tradeoff here, or if it is just typical cost bloat for medicine/academia.

I haven’t done very thorough research, but my impression is that there is a considerable cost bloat if you go through hospitals and similar, but that the genome sequencing is essentially the same.

Around 4% of the worlds electrical energy comsumption is from comminution aka crushing rocks. [1]

Of which, perhaps 1 ton in 100,000 is mined for Lithium.

A 10 dB reduction is half the perceived loudness, so 8 dB is quite significant. 142 dB (SPL) will make you deaf instantly if you are right next to the sound source, but at a distance the 8dB reduction will make it sound much softer.

This sounds somewhat similar to symptoms I am having. Currently on a 5 month journey trying to get a diagnosis.

I have abdominal pain, headaches, high blood pressure with periodical orthostatic hypertension (my blood pressure goes up in the standing position; it is supposed to go down), tremors, tachycardia, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, constipation or diarrhea, severe sleep disturbances, muscle spasm and cramps, hot flushes, cold hands and feet, and I have some episodes of euphoria, panic attacks and paranoia. Same as you I have some days where I feel just fine.

I have had the same experiences as you when it comes to doctors, they do a lot of tests, the tests come back inconclusive and then they just shrug. At least I have a nice GP that says that he has no clue what is wrong with me but that something is definitely wrong.

So far we have done a lot of blood work, various urine and stool samples, CT-scan and MRI of abdomen. The only thing they have been able to find so far is slightly elevated noradrenaline/norepinephrine levels (three times) and some cysts on my left kidney.

The elevated noradrenaline could be because of a pheochromocytoma (adrenaline producing tumor), but when I have done the 24-hour urine test for that it comes back negative.

The only thing that I have found to work is to eat a low tyramine diet which seems to greatly reduce the symptoms, though not completely remove them.

It might not be the same as you are having problems with, but I do see a lot of similarities.

My email is in my profile, let me know if you want to compare notes.

Yes, definitely. I will email you after work today. I have also been evaluated for a pheo with negative results - the sudden panic attacks out of nowhere seem to trigger this diagnostic pathway.

I will try to reduce dietary tyrannies - that is a good idea.

And are you taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors?

I worked several years as a feelance audio engineer. When I started out I remember beeing concerned that I didn't have enough productive working hours. I found it hard to have more than 5 hours productive work done during an 8 hour work day. Also, since I was invoicing for the hours worked I felt that I should be far more efficient. After discussing this with other freelancers I found this to be quite common. Now, many years later, I consider 6 productive hours to be a really good day, and I will invoice it as 8 hours.

Today I manage a team of developers, and my experience is that the quality of the output is much better if they are focused and well rested, and that the amount of hours worked does not directly translate to better work. So if someone on the team is tired because of their kids not sleeping or something similar, I actually tell them sleep a few more hours. It seems counterintuitive, but I find it to work better for everyone on the team.

A number I saw a few years ago, is that the just the plugin market for Petrel is estimated at 4.5 billion USD annually.

Unfortunately I have no way to verify the source.

The Dune game from Cryo is one of my favorite games of all time. It has cartoony graphics and solid controls so it is still a very playable game and the combination of adventure and strategy is really well done. Would love to see more games combining adventure and strategy like that. Though I am afraid as a genre it doesn't cater to a very wide audience.
