I agree! I jumped into the article when I saw apache.org defaced....

what tool do you use to generate these stats?

You could combine Nagios, Lilac, and PNP4Nagios to get some pretty good monitoring with graphs(PNP4Nagios), notification(Nagios), and the ability to configure new servers from templates(Lilac). Not for the feint of heart, but not outright tedious. With some slight hackery you can even graph and alert on windows drive freespace.

The graphs look like MRTG. Probably running a request every few minutes and looking at the response, if there is one, and plotting it.

Very funny... I wonder what other tools have this kind of funny easter egg.

Well, quick response because they realized they screwed it up...

Awesome speech, but world changing? no..

Joomla, for example doesn't dump their version in the generator field (nor does mediawiki, I believe). Only wordpress like to do that.

Simple but works... In the same way that if you modify your tcp/ip stack, nmap (or p0f) will get all confused and report the wrong os,

Cool stuff. I have been using Sucuri's Network Integrity monitor for the same thing... I monitor my own sites and some pages that I am interested to be notified when they change.

That can be very useful as an intrusion detection system if your pages are modified without you knowing it.

It seems to be back now...

And they will go downhill from now on...
