I was a developer at a mechanical engineering company a while ago. I could see how excited people were for Python and related technology over Matlab back then. This was 2.5 years ago. People were trying to get aboard with NX having python libraries but when I snooped around, the library was horribly written. They should have exposed a library that could be pip installed. But instead they had a macro interface wherein you run python scripts. A friend of mine showed others how to import the libraries into another python environment, albeit having the same major and minor versions, by adding the folder containing the libs to path. It spoke over a socket. I am not sure how far he came with his implementation, but it was really exciting. It's sad that these companies don't try to embrace OSS. There's a market there.
I'm glad Ansys is trying to do something but I am no longer in a place where I can evaluate how feasible this is. I've passed this link to my friend and I am waiting to hear what he says. That being said, he and I had written our own libraries to speak to Ansys. Oddly enough. That was also named PyAnsys.
