You may like Tweetbot more, but I am a power user who actually prefers the official client. It's not a question of good vs. bad, it's more like good vs. better (where better is a personal preference).

Do you disagree that they have abandoned their native Mac client?

Personally I don't think the "Discover" tab is worth its real estate in the menu.
